A Little History
EZCanvas is owned by FinerWorks Media, LLC. James Theopistos, the founder of the FinerWorks Media was a member of a new generation of artists and photographers in the 1990s who were looking for ways to print their work. He noticed a lack of good printing options for artists to print small volumes on anything bigger than an 8x10. The alternative was to hire a printing company which usually required ordering a large volume of prints at best.
Not wanting to be committed to a huge inventory and expense for all of his work, Theopistos saw it more cost effective to simply purchase a nice color inkjet printer which allowed the production of prints up to 11x14 inches. While the quality of these prints were far from the archival grade prints of today it was a good start for creating his own prints without the hassle of a costly setup or drawn out production process. When it was brought to his attention some paper manufacturers were beginning to engineer canvas for their large format printer models, Theopistos set out to experiment with canvas prints as an option with the help of a local comercial graphics company. It was not long before he discovered canvas added value to the prints and attracted the interest of fellow artists. With his help other artists and photographers too were able to offer canvas prints of their work.
As a way to manage this newly discovered demand, Theopistos developed an online service specifically to receive the image files people wanted him to print which he could then forward to the comercial graphics company for printing. His printing partner would produce the canvas prints and he would stretch and mount these by hand for the customer then ship them out of his garage. Not many companies were doing this online so Theopistos decided bring turn the website into a full online ordering service as well as bring the printing process in-house for better quality control. This site eventually became known as FinerWorks.com. Shortly thereafter, FinerWorks was then moved out of a garage and into a commercial location to better serve its growing customer base.
Now, almost 10 years later, FinerWorks Media, runs a fleet of large format printers, manufacturers its own mounting frames and machine mounts the canvases. Today the company produces tens of thousands of unique prints each year for a range of people from professionals to hobbiests. We believe with the service and ease of order we offer, anyone, and not just professionals can order stunning canvas prints of their favorite photos and images.
